So I think I turned on some new fans today, um yesterday. I was playing IB as usual in my car, convertible easy (unavoidable) to hear and Butterfly Bleu was on. Couple people hangin out asked about it, thought it was something new. Of course I explained and played more IB for them... They also loved Scorching Beauty, obviously Blues fans... Being they (IB) originated in the 60's seems to intrigue people. 8-)

Psyche, et al,

Bill's set up for that album was a Mini-Moog on top of his Mellotron, and a Horhner Pianette on top of a Hammond B3 (which was destroyed in a fire at a club across from Bushwack Studios). He got a replacement a week later. I've had the pleasure and fond memories of playing both B3's. Sweet!

"I'm Right, I'm Wrong" always brought the house down when they did that live. It was a crowd rouser. It was awesome live.
It would always get quiet as Bill sang "Beyond the Milky Way". Had everyone eating out his hand. It was
wonderful to see and hear live. Bill has still got it.

I seem to remember that the Scorching Beauty cover is displayed in the Smithsonian.

Til later, cheers mates,

Smithsonian? Why?

I should clarify that it was the Scorching Beauty album cover with the Lady Butterfly, inspired by the movie Metropolis, that ended up in the Smithsonian. Guess someone thought it might become some kind of cultural icon thing, like Indiana Jones' fedora, whip and revolver (also in the Smithsonian). Still, something Iron Butterfly in the Smithsonian, what a cultural 'coupe de tate' that is.

My stepmom's father has an aircraft engine in the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum, so I guess I have a kind of family tie to that. Now a band I crewed for has one of their album covers in the other Smithsonian museum.

Wonder what's next for me there at that place, a Disney animation cell from Three Cabelleros of Donald Duck and the parrot, my pal Joe Careoca? Well, the parrot really isn't my pal, the guy who did the voice of the parrot Jose Olivera from Careoca, Rio De Janeiro was a pal and family friend. They got a real life Joe Careoca to play the parrot Joe Careoca.

I guess we all liked the Sun and Steel version of Scorching Beauty better than any version that was on the Scorching Beauty album itself.

Damn, why didn't I catch that? Metropolis is one of my favorite movies of all time! Not to mention THE best silent film there is AND had the best special effects until Star Wars! 50 Years!

Of course now that you told me that about the cover it seems so obvious!

Metropolis, required viewing at a number of film schools. Yeah, damn
good film, considering it was silent, yet so far ahead of it's day.

And speaking of Star Wars- part of the 70's sequel was filmed two doors
down from Bushwack at a place called Baird Engineering, he was a
machinist or mechanical engineer. The part of the asteroid sequence
when the Imperial fighters are carpet bombing the asteroid to flush out
the Millenium Falcon, was shot a Baird Engineering.

Taylor and I were allowed in after filming was completed. Some of the
set, camera track and sled were still in place. Taylor wanted to know
what it all was and before Baird could explain, I jumped in and explained
it all to him. Taylor was freaked that I knew this stuff, then I reminded him
that I used to cut (edit) 16mm film when I was in my mid-teens. Then I
reminded him that I knew Harrison Ford's stunt double and at the time had
just finished up in Tunisia a film directed by Speilberg and produced by Lucas,
"Raiders ...". Taylor and I had a lot to talk about that night at our local
coffee haunt.

The song "Scorching Beauty" and the rest of the "Sun and Steel" album
was always great live at the club The Starwood. Erik always did a
great job with that song. Then there's ...Milky Way, I'm Right I'm Wrong,
Lightning,... damn that was great fun. Wild times- Rock & Roll!

Thanks for the walk down memory lane. Strange times, fond memories.
Thanks guys.
